Styling eBooks

MAPG recognised that there is room to improve upon the 'look and feel' of eBooks.

Once your publication has been converted to your preferred format (which will generally be either ePub or html), MAPG can work with you to style the eBook. Our quest here is to style the ebook using the printed versions style guide as our lead - we then take into consideration the limitations, rules and requirments of electronic reading devices (such as the ipad, the kindle or adobe digital editions) and we work within the paramters.

The outcome is a great looking, well thought, multi platform friendly eBook.

There are significant differences between styling a printed book in Indesign versus ammending or creating a cascading style sheet (.css) that will carry across the same design elements. In some instances we will be able to almost match design and layout, and in others, there may need to be some compromise. Contact us for a confidential discussion.

We are confident in our approach and have some great examples that we can present to you. Contact us for further infromation.

Creating a template

It can become quite expensive if you are constantly requiring stylesheets ammended to interpet the deisgn elemements for the ebook.

Where you have multiple books that utilise the same (or very similar) text design styles and layout, it is worth discussing having us create a custom template specific to your pubication.

What this means is that we take the time up front to design the final look and feel of your ebook before we convert anything. (Utilising sample chapters and front matter etc).

Once the template has been approved and signed off, we simply convert your publications to xml and then export them all into the customised template.

The result is a great looking series of eBooks using a very cost effective method.

EXPERIENCE

If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
